Bhopal Court Denies Second Postmortem in Twisha Sharma Case
The legal battle surrounding the mysterious death of 33-year-old Twisha Sharma took a significant turn on Wednesday, May 20, after a court in Bhopal rejected her family’s plea seeking a second postmortem examination. The case has attracted widespread public attention due to allegations of harassment, suspicious circumstances, and possible dowry-related abuse raised by her family members.
Twisha Sharma, originally from Noida, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal on May 12, just five months after her marriage. Since the incident, questions have continued to emerge regarding the circumstances surrounding her death. Her parents have repeatedly alleged foul play and demanded a fresh autopsy along with an independent and transparent investigation into the case.
Since May 13, Twisha’s body has remained preserved at the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary because her family refused to take custody of the body until their demands were addressed. The family expressed concern that crucial forensic evidence could deteriorate if the body remained stored for an extended period without proper preservation measures.
The controversy intensified after conflicting claims emerged regarding the temperature at which the body was being stored. According to the family, police informed them that the body was preserved at minus 4 degrees Celsius. However, doctors from the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal reportedly stated that long-term preservation of a body for forensic purposes would require temperatures close to minus 80 degrees Celsius to effectively prevent decomposition and preserve vital evidence.
Despite these arguments, the Bhopal court dismissed the family’s request for a second postmortem, dealing a setback to their legal efforts. The decision has now placed the family in a difficult situation, forcing them to decide whether to continue pursuing further legal remedies or proceed with the final rites.
Meanwhile, police investigations into the case are ongoing. Authorities are examining forensic reports, digital evidence, and other materials connected to the incident. Police have reportedly registered cases related to dowry death and cruelty allegations as part of the investigation.
